Journey To CrossFit
Now I will start this off by saying when I tried out crossfit it wasn’t in the past year that I lost all of this weight. However, I was still pretty heavy when I participated. So, everyone has a friend that is very in to crossfit. If you don’t that is ok because I know you have heard of it! My best friend Emily really wanted to try something new and found a box. Yes I am using the name they use for gym haha. The box was close to her and had free Saturday work outs.
We went to try it out before really committing to it which I suggest everyone does because it is no joke. Now when they do these free workouts it is typically all just body weight. Mostly because you have not gone through their beginner’s course. That is where they make sure you know correct form for all the lifts you would be doing in the workouts. All I can say about these work outs is just be prepared to get your butt kicked!
Even if you are in shape and have been doing crossfit for a long time, by the end of the workout we are all laying on the floor drenched in sweat trying to not die! I think the most common misconception on this style of work out is that if you are not already in shape or you have bad joints you can’t really participate. Well I am over weight and I have a bad knee from years of abuse playing soccer. I was still able to get in some really good workouts.
You will always have a coach there with you to make sure you are doing the correct form. There were countless times the workout was just way too much running for me. It would’ve taken me all night to get the workout done. The coach told me to cut it in half and no one around me was upset. They didn’t feel like they should slack off as well because we all came to get a great workout.
Honest CrossFit Review
Going for the few months that I did I typically stuck to the same class time because of work. It seems like you will see a lot of the same regulars. The people I met at the crossfit box that I went to were so nice and loved cheering me on which was awesome. I mean who hasn’t gone to a regular gym and just felt like everyone around you was judging you for only lifting the 5 pound weights.
Another thing that I really enjoyed about crossfit was the fact that I did have a coach for every workout. They had the workouts planned every day. It was never even close to the same thing every time you went which was awesome. They also were there to cheer you on and to push you. Since I had played soccer from the age of 4 to 17 I had gotten very used to having someone on the sideline pushing me harder. So I saw this as a huge plus for me.
Now if that isn’t your thing maybe don’t go with crossfit. But I think everyone needs some kind of motivation to keep on pushing when you think you might just pass out! The only real reason I stopped going to crossfit was the cost at the end of the day. You can go to a lot of gyms for $30 a month, but cross fit you are going to be spending over $100 depending on where you live. In Dallas I have a hard time finding anything under $150. If you have the extra income then I really think everyone should try it at least one time! Even if you don’t have the money there are a lot of boxes that do free workouts on specific days.
