Journey To P90
Most people have heard of Tony Horton’s P90X workouts, and he has come out with several versions at this point. A few years ago, my mom bought me P90X3 to help me get back into working out. I am pretty sure I only did two of the workouts and I thought I was going to die! A little dramatic I know, but I really thought I was just going to lose it after each workout haha!
P90 Workout Routine
So, last year I was looking into some workout programs that I could do that would ease me back into the grind. I stumbled upon the apparently well-kept secret that was P90. I say it is a secret because whenever I told someone I was doing P90 they thought I was just being lazy and leaving off the X part of the name! Tony Horton made P90 so that people of all fitness levels would have a workout that they could do. In every video, he has 3 people doing the workouts behind him all showing modified versions of the moves. I mean who knew there was a modified version of jumping jacks! I can do jumping jacks but living on the 3rd floor I modified to reduce noise level.
This is a full body workout and you can choose to do the cardio based or the tone based. Since my focus right now is to lose weight I chose the cardio side. You are doing the same work out, but more of the days are cardio rather than strength training.
The first few weeks are really just a warm up for the last 2 months. The first couple of times I did the work outs I went with the fully modified version. By the end of that month I was doing the full out workout. So, it is a good way to warm people up who haven’t worked out in a while. They do suggest that if you do not feel like you are ready for the next set of workouts to do a few more weeks of that first set.
The second month had a lot of the same moves with harder elements added to make it challenging. I will be honest I probably should’ve done this month twice because I really was struggling. You can ask my mom and boyfriend I would complain so much because it was really hard. The third month is still the same moves with added challenges to make them tougher.
Final Thoughts On P90

Sometimes I am not sure how I finished these 90 days, but I did and I am so glad that I did. It got me ready for more challenging workouts like P90X3 and I lost a lot of weight at the same time. They even have an app now so you can pay yearly and get all of their workouts instead of getting the DVD sets every time. I found this convenient when I went to Vegas and forgot to bring my DVDS, but I was able to pull them up on the IPAD and still get my workout in. I think if you are getting back into working out this is definitely the workout to go with!
